There is no doubt that some jobs are more inherently dangerous than others. For the most part, those dangerous jobs are related to services that directly help the community and its everyday needs and wants. Construction work is an example of a necessary and hazardous line of work.

Maryland got a prime and tragic example of that truth last Friday, when a construction worker was killed in a work accident. He was working with a group of others contracted to build a casino near Arundel Mills mall when a concrete wall fell on top of him.

Probably like any other day, the victim left on Friday morning for work thinking he would return home for dinner and the weekend. Sadly, he never returned home. Another worker on the Maryland construction site was severely injured and is currently being treated in a Baltimore hospital. Earlier this month, another accident reportedly occurred at the casinos site, wherein another worker was injured.

Sure, some jobs are more dangerous than others. But there are certain safeguards and safety standards that need to be put in place in order to prevent needless accidents from happening. After Friday's accident, work on the site was put on hold. Officials, including OSHA, are thoroughly investigating the accident at this point to see whether safety conditions were lax and led to the fatal accident.

When there is an update in this case, we will add a new post and let you know what investigators find. It will also be interesting to see, if negligence led to the accident, whether civil suits will be filed.
